Expanding Your Horizons Conference

The Lewis County American Association of University Women and Centralia College present the 30th annual
Expanding Your Horizons Conference!

Featuring Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) career workshops for 6th through 9th grade students in Lewis and South Thurston counties!

Lewis County Expanding Your Horizons is back with 22 fun and educational hands-on STEAM career workshops for area students in the 6th through 9th grades.

Participants select and attend 2 workshops where instructors will share why they chose their field, what they do, and what education is required to enter their profession. Workshops include fun hands-on exercises to help students get a sense of what is involved with each career field. All students will also be able to attend an exciting assembly where representatives from the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry demonstrate physics at work with experiments on energy conversion, forces, inertia, and laws of motion.

This year’s event will also include a separate, optional workshop for parents covering topics including Running Start, how to fund a college or trade school education, and more!

Talking Headstones - Daughter of the American Revolution

The Sacajawea Chapter of the Daughters of the American revolution in partnership with the City of Tumwater and George Rogers Clark SAR, at the Union Pioneer Calvary Cemetery located in Tumwater next to Mills and Mills Cemetery will present histories on eight original Tumwater Founders buried in the cemetery. Talking Headstones will take place at 5700 Littlerock Road, Tumwater, WA 98501. It is recommended that you access the cemetery by parking at the south end of Mills and Mills and walking through the Littlerock Road streetside opening in the cemetery fence.

There will be eight rotating historic presentations given by the local Sacajawea Chapter - Daughters of the Revolution and Sons of the American Revolution about the following founders buried in Union Pioneer Calvary Cemetery: Charles Mason & Thomas Frost, Jesse Ferguson, Sara Lang, Bordeaux Family, Harvey Cameron, Charles Judson, Newton Tice, and George and Isabella Bush. Any members of the public attending who are descendants of founders buried in the cemetery will be acknowledged.

Please help preserve our knowledge of Tumwater’s history by attending. The Sacajawea Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is comprised of members from Thurston, Lewis, Mason, and Pierce counties.
